There are dog-friendly restaurant patio bars, and then there’s MUTTS Canine Cantina; an outdoor restaurant and beer garden built specifically for dog lovers.

The bar and grill with an off-the-leash dog park will open next year in the Montecillo development. The local franchisee first announced the Dallas-based Mutts brand was coming in October 2021. It was originally projected to open this year, but unspecified delays kept that from happening.

The dog park restaurant’s concept is an outdoor bar and grill paired with a member’s only off-leash dog park. Considering the number of sunny days and pleasant nights we get around here coupled with the more often than not mild winters, El Paso is a perfect city for a place like this. Or should I say pawfect?

The bar and grill will cook up things like burgers, chicken sandwiches and chicken tenders, and the walk-up bar will serve local craft brews and various cocktails and margaritas.

Doggies can dine on mini-beef franks, known as “doggie dogs,” and dog-friendly popsicles.

The atmosphere within the off-leash dog park will include HDTVs, lounge chairs and shaded seating areas, and the supervised area where doggos can run free will have a splash pad for dogs, according to the news release. Sounds like puppy paradise.

According to documents filed with the state, construction of MUTTS Canine Cantina will begin in September in Montecillo, the mixed-use development off North Mesa that is home to Topgolf.

It will be located at 460 Vin Rambla which is down the street from iFly by the round-a-bout dead-end giving pet owners sunset views of Mount Cristo Rey. The project is expected to be completed in April, 2023.
