I'm always amazed at how athletes get injured, but Barry Church has just etched his name into my personal record book for stupidity. The Dallas Cowboys safety loves Jolly Ranchers so much that he chipped a tooth on the cherry flavored hard candy about a week before training camp started. Church, who like legendary Cowboys running back Emmitt Smith, dealt with the excruciating pain until this past Monday. That was when he missed a team walkthrough and full practice to go to the dentist's office and get a root canal. This isn't the first time Church has been out with an injury. He missed the last 13 games of the 2012 season with a torn Achilles' tendon.

As a result of the chipped tooth, the Cowboys have told their defensive back that he has to give up Jolly Ranchers and all candy for awhile. Church is not happy about losing his sugar rush, but did say that he will stick to the soft stuff when he can enjoy candy again. My recommendation to him is Gummy Bears, although Starburst and Chewy Sweet Tarts might also be appealing.
