11 soldiers were injured at Fort Bliss after they ingested an "unknown substance" during a field training exercise.

The U.S. Army released a brief statement, saying Fort Bliss officials are conducting an investigation into the incident to find out exactly what happened. Two of the soldiers are in critical condition and all 11 soldiers involved are under observation of a medical professional.

Fort Bliss is home to the 1st Armored Division and consists of 17,000 highly trained soldiers, according to the Army's website. Known as the "Old Ironsides," the tank division support missions in 20 countries on five continents.

The 1st Armored Division is the oldest and arguably most recognizable armor division in the United States Army and originated at Fort Knox, Kentucky.

There were no further details available but Fort Bliss officials said they will provide updates as soon as they are available.
