Annals back into eons sportsdom-wise say UTEP’s football team doesn’t win games against anyone of note – or even of a tad of note.

So far the 5-4 record shows wins against “No No Not Yets” New Mexico and New Mexico State, along with brand-new FBS school Old Dominion and two teams playing without their starting quarterbacks (injuries). Those limpers were UT San Antonio and Southern Mississippi.
So, UTEP hasn’t beat an “anybody.” And Saturday UTEP lost at Western Kentucky 35-27 by giving up 21 points in the fourth quarter. Gag. Thus, UTEP didn’t beat an “anybody” yet again. And Western Kentucky was just a “somebody.” People rave that one more win (6) means the Miners will be bowl eligible. Yes, “eligible,” so says “eligible.”
It looks like Saturday’s foe, North Texas, isn’t any better than the weakies and QB-less teams the team has already defeated. So beat North Texas. Make it 6-6. Then what? It’s back to a road game as an underdog at pretty-decent Rice and then home against vs. a Western Kentucky-ilk, Middle Tennessee. As questioned above: Can/will Sean Kugler be a history buster? If this year’s team doesn’t finish out 2-1 (7-5 record) then it’s just another season where UTEP did not have success facing another not-so-tough schedule.
