The Miners took a week off for finals but showed no rust with a tremendous 86-32 win over Division II UTPB on Monday night at the Don Haskins Center.  With the victory, UTEP improved to 8-0, and is one of only 15 teams in the country to still remain undefeated.

The Miners set a program record for field goal percentage, shooting 52.5 percent throughout the contest and forcing 31 Falcon turnovers. Defensively, UTEP was stellar, holding UTPB to 16.7 percent shooting for the game, and a stingy 7.4 percent in the second half.  This is the third time in the history of the program that the Miners have began a season 8-0.

UTPB started the game with a barrage of three pointers, and was competitive in the first quarter as they were down 21-15 entering the second quarter.  That was as close as the Falcons would get though as the Miners outscored them 65-17 over the final three quarters of the game.  UTEP's 54 point victory is the fifth largest in program history.

The Miners' diverse scoring attack was led by Starr Breedlove who scored 13 points, Jenzel Nash added 11, while both Anete Kirsteine and Sparkle Taylor tallied 10 as well.  UTEP controlled the boards by out-rebounding Permian Basin 46-31, and outscored the Falcons in the paint by an astonishing 50-2 margin.  The bench play of the Miners continues to be exceptional as they scored 47 points to UTPB's 11.
