The UTEP women's basketball team opened their 2015-2016 campaign with a tremendous 98-63 victory over Houston Baptist University.  The Miners were relentless on both sides of the ball.  Offensively, they came out poised to show how dynamic they are by taking a 28-4 lead in the first quarter.  The Miners were led by senior Cameasha Turner who scored 20 points, Sparkle Taylor added 15 coming off of the bench, and Jenzel Nash contributed with 11 points.

UTEP's bench was clutch in the victory by displaying tremendous depth by scoring 56 points; nearly as many as the whole HBU squad.  Freshman Najala Howell added a spark with six points and four rebounds, and Louisville transfer Starr Breedlove tallied five pints and had a team best five assists.  Offensively, UTEP shot 54.7 percent from the field, and defensively they held HBU to 32.7 percent shooting.

The Miners' 98 points were the most that they've ever scored in a season opener.  UTEP will play their second game in three days when They host Northern Arizona on Tuesday night at 7:05 p.m.  You can listen to that game with Steve Kaplowitz and Traci Miller on 600 ESPN El Paso, as well as all UTEP women's basketball home and road games this season.
