UTEP looked sharp in their season opener on Saturday night as they defeated Loyola 96-49.  The Miners dominated Loyola from start to finish in a game where numerous players excelled and performed brilliantly.  Newcomers Lee Moore and Dominic Artis displayed their exceptional talents in their debut.  Moore scored 17, Dominic Artis added 16, and nearly had a triple-double, Hooper Vint contributed with 15 points, and Tevin Caldwell scored 9 points and had 9 boards.

UTEP took an early 21-2 lead thank to a 19-0 first half run and led 53-23 at halftime.  The 96 points that the Miners scored are the most that  they've tallied in a season opener since Nov. 22, 2003 when they dropped 109 on Texas Permian Basin.  UTEP played a solid defensive game as well by scoring 28 points off of turnovers, and destroyed the Wolf Pack on the boards 56-29.

The Miners will be off until next Saturday, Nov. 21 when they host Texas State 7:30 p.m.
