UTEP President Diana Natalicio and Director of Athletics Jim Senter announced new renovations that would be made to the Sun Bowl, including improvements to the press box, luxury seats and a new patio.

“The planned renovation of Sun Bowl Stadium is a key step in our continued campus transformation that enhances the overall experience of our students, faculty, staff and visitors,” Natalicio said. “We are grateful for the collaboration and support of our longtime community partner GECU as we begin modernizing this iconic facility that serves not only the UTEP campus but the entire region.”

Underneath the press box will feature the GECU Terrace, which will include club seats, loge boxes and an outdoor cantina.

There will also be improvements to the press box and the Captain's Club, which will be replaced by the new Sky Lounge.

“One of the most beautiful stadiums in college football will become even more breathtaking,” Senter said.  “We thank GECU for their partnership, their commitment and their investment in helping get this project underway."

This project will cost $10-15 million and was raised primarily by donors, especially GECU.

Construction is set to start immediately and is set to finish by September of 2019.
