On a windy, chilly, cloudy New Year's Eve in El Paso, the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets made amends for blowing a fourteen point fourth quarter lead to Utah in the 78th Hyundai Sun Bowl.  The Ramblin' Wreck rumbled for 294 rushing yards in a 21-7 victory over USC.

After a scoreless first quarter, the Yellow Jackets stung first blood when David Sims caught a three yard touchdown pass from backup quarterback Vad Lee.  Sims finished the day with 99 yards and the touchdown reception.

USC tied the game shortly before the pass when freshman quarterback Max Wittek hit Silas Redd for a nine yard touchdown pass.  That was about the only bright spot for Wittek.  On the day, Wittek was a very modest 14/37 for 107 yards three interceptions and just the one touchdown.  USC was just 3-15 on third down and could only muster 205 yards of total offense.

Georgia Tech quaterbacks made the most of their five completions.  Two of them went for touchdowns.

The Yellow Jackets assured they wouldn't blow another fourteen point fourth quarter lead when Jamal Golden picked off Max Wittek in the end zone with just over a minute to go.

The Georgia Tech player had a timeless message for those who felt a 6-7 team was undeserving of a bowl bid.

Backup quaterback Vad Lee hinted that the Yellow Jackets may have had more of a will to win this game.

Starting quarterback Tevin Washington was on cloud nine after the way things ended a year ago.

The win marks Georgia Tech's first bowl victory since the 2004 Champs Sports Bowl.  Tech cornerback Rod Sweeting was named the game's M.V.P.
