Miners Fall to UNLV 62-60
Konner Tucker's three pointer clanked harmlessly off the rim as time expired to preserve a 62-60 win for number 21 UNLV. UTEP, however, had succeeded in turning the Runnin' Rebels into the Joggin' Rebels.
The Miners held a quick, athletic Vegas team to a season low point total. Coach Floyd attributed that to getting back on defense.
UTEP once again struggled to find offensive consistency or flow, but there was a bright spot with Tucker. With 15:42 to go, the Sam Houston State transfer hit a long three with the shot clock winding down.
From that point on, the Miners went on a 34-24 run to close out the game. Tucker finished his first game as a Miner with 12 points on 4-8 shooting. Julian Washburn led the Miners with 13 points on a horrific 5-16 shooting night. As a team, UTEP was 21-52 from the field.
The 3-5 Miners will get another tough home test Wednesday night when they host 9-1 Oregon.
