“#UTEP fans betta go hide in juarez wen #NMSU slide through they just list to a team we beat by 50 .. That’s disgusting if you ask me”

–Wendell McKines on Twitter

“It’s not braggin’ if you can back it up.”

–Muhammed Ali

Wendell McKines backed it up. Talking a little smack on his Twitter feed after the Miners lost their opening exhibition to Eastern New Mexico, the New Mexico State forward could do the math.

It wasn’t more than 50 (the Aggies beat the Greyhounds, 115-64; ENMU beat UTEP, 75-64), but it was a thorough beat-down.

NMSU out-rebounded the Miners — a first in UTEP’s opening four games — by 15, 42-27.

A team full of freshman, the Miners had to shoot lights-out in the first half (54%) just to trail by four at halftime.

And so it will go for this UTEP team, which head coach Tim Floyd has characterized as the toughest rebuilding job of his career.
