1956 — Don Larsen of the New York Yankees pitched the first perfect game in World Series history, beating the Brooklyn Dodgers, 2-0, in Game 5 of the Fall Classic at Yankee Stadium. (More info.)

1961 — Whitey Ford pitched five shutout innings in a 7-0 win against the Cincinnati Reds at Crosley Field in Game 4 of the World Series. The outing allowed Ford to set a World Series record of 33 consecutive scoreless innings, breaking Babe Ruth's record of 29 2/3 innings set with the Boston Red Sox set in 1916 and 1918. (More info.)

1973 — Pete Rose of the Cincinnati Reds crashed into Bud Harrelson of the New York Mets at second base to break up a double play in Game 3 of the National League Championship Series at Shea Stadium.
