1943 — Philadelphia Phillies’ owner William D. Cox was permanently banned from baseball for betting on his own team. (More info.)

1947 — Sammy Baugh of the Washington Redskins threw six touchdown passes, and his team beat the Chicago Cardinals, 45-21, at Griffith Stadium. (More info.)

1968 — Undefeated Harvard rallied to tie unbeaten rival Yale, 29-29, by scoring 16 points in the final 42 seconds at Cambridge, Mass. (More info.)

1981 — The U.S. District Court in Brooklyn convicted five former Boston College basketball players on charges stemming from their shaving of points to fix games during the 1978-79 season. (More info.)
