1914 — Baltimore Orioles’ owner Jack Dunn offered minor league players Babe Ruth, Ernie Shore and Ben Egan to Philadelphia A’s owner Connie Mack for $10,000. Mack’s financial issues led him to decline the offer. (More info.)

1937 — St. Louis Cardinals’ pitcher Dizzy Dean suffered a broken toe when he was hit by a line drive off the bat of Cleveland Indians’ Earl Averill in the Major League Baseball All-Star Game at Griffith Stadium in Washington. 1964 — Philadelphia Phillies’ outfielder Johnny Callison hit a walk-off home run as the National League won the 35th MLB All Star Game, 7-4, at Shea Stadium in New York. (More info.)
