It has been an unpredictable season for the Miners thus far.  At times they have looked brilliant dominating their opponents, and in certain games they have looked mediocre.  UTEP looked anything but mediocre in their 70-56 victory over East Carolina on Wednesday night at the Don Haskins Center.

With the win the Miners find themselves a game over .500 for the first time this season with a record of 10-9.  So far UTEP has held their own in C-USA play winning their last 2 games.  Overall they have won 8 of their last 12 games.

UTEP dominated the boards, out rebounding East Carolina 39-19.  The Miners were able to get to the fowl line often and were spectacular on offense, shooting 71% in the first half.  They were able to find their rhythm on offense all evening as 4 of their 5 starters finished with double figures.  UTEP impressed their fans and former great Antonio Davis who was honored at halftime.

Things are not going to get any easier for UTEP as they will play their next 3 games on the road, a place where they have struggled this season.  When asked what UTEP had to do to have success on the road Coach Floyd had this to say.

Despite struggling at certain times this season, it is apparent that the Miners are learning Tim Floyd's system rather well.  With a little more than a month remaining in the regular season they seem to be building some momentum.

At this point with such a young team, that is just what they need to build their confidence as they enter the stretch run of the season.  After all, you never know what can happen if your team enters their conference tournament on a hot streak.
