The El Paso Chihuahuas scored four late runs in Game 1 of Wednesday’s doubleheader but lost to the Albuquerque Isotopes 5-4 at Southwest University Park. Albuquerque’s two-run lead swelled to five in the top of the sixth when Griff Erickson and Johnny Monell hit back-to-back home runs, both to center field. The Chihuahuas sent ten batters to the plate in a four-run sixth, with Jonathan Galvez’s two-run home run and Rico Noel’s bases-loaded single highlighting the rally.

The Chihuahuas went down 1-2-3 in the seventh inning of the seven-inning game, dropping their second straight to Albuquerque. Starter Michael Nix threw four hitless, shutout innings to begin the game, but was handed the loss after allowing two runs in the fifth.

The El Paso Chihuahuas matched a team high for runs in an inning in their 9-5 win over the Albuquerque Isotopes in Game 2 of Wednesday’s doubleheader. El Paso scored seven times in the bottom of the fifth inning on RBI hits from Jeff Francoeur, Chris Nelson and Alex Castellanos, as well as a long three-run home run by Cody Decker that cleared the street behind Southwest University Park’s left field walkway.

Francoeur had five hits in the doubleheader. Tyler Greene went 0-for-3 with two runs scored in Game 2, ending his Chihuahuas-record 13-game hitting streak. Albuquerque starting pitcher Carlos Frias was ejected in the fourth inning for appearing to have a foreign substance on his forearm.
