Nearly 40 years after it was first built, the building known as "The Castle" will soon be no more. It first opened in 1975 as "Taffy Jones," a themed restaurant/disco club that later became Crow's Castle and then the Iron Tender. In the mid to late 80s, the restaurant was turned into Prince Machiavelli Lounge, a gentlemen's club that was known in its later years as the Westside Show Lounge. I was not living in El Paso during the Taffy Jones era, but I did work at KLAQ/KSII/KROD radio, which was located across the street at Pinnacle (now home to the Sun Bowl Association). Like so many El Pasoans, I do confess that I spent more than a few nights at Prince in the mid to late 1990s with some buddies. It will soon be torn down, but never forgotten.
