Ken Whisenhunt is the second head coach to be fired this season. In a surprising  move the Tennessee Titians decided to part ways with Whisenhunt after a 3-20 start.

Titans controlling owner Amy Adams Strunk said in a statement that they made the move after expecting more progress on the field, saying she felt it was time to move in a different direction.

“After thoughtful consideration, the decision has been made to relieve Ken Whisenhunt of his head coaching duties.” We have expected more progress on the field, and I felt it was time to move in a different direction. I would like to thank Ken for his efforts with our team, as he worked very hard to try to move us forward.”

Strunk announced that Mike Mularkey has been named interim head coach for the rest of the season.

Whisenhunt joins Joe Philbin as head coaches to be fired this season. Philbin was fired by the Miami Dolphins earlier this season.
