It has been an unpredictable season for the Miners thus far.  At times they have looked brilliant dominating their opponents, and in certain games they have looked mediocre.  UTEP looked anything but mediocre in their 70-56 victory over East Carolina on Wednesday night at the Don Haskins Center.

For the first time this season, UTEP eclipsed the .500 mark with a solid 70-56 win over East Carolina.  The Miners had a very balanced scoring attack.  Four of the five starters finished with double figures. Coach Floyd has been preaching rebounding all season...

"...The result was a rebounding bloodbath that the Miners were only too happy to claim. UTEP out-boarded ECU, 14-5, in the first half and by 20 in the game, 39-19..."

On a night where the UTEP Miners retired Tim Hardaway's number 10 jersey, fans where treated to an overall spectacular show.  UTEP defeated rival Houston in their C-USA home opener 70-50 in front of 8,327 fans.

College basketball coaches will always tell you there are two seasons, non-conference and conference.  Some coaches like to pad their non-conference record with a cupcake schedule, but most coaches like to battle test their teams with a variety of opponents...

One question many people were asking last night was why UTEP was playing Colorado State in the first game of the Bank of the West Don Haskins Sun Bowl Invitational?

The UTEP Miners had to come back from Hawaii feeling pretty good about themselves.  They downed Clemson and Auburn and hung tough with a talented Kansas State team. When I found out that the UTEP men's basketball team would be playing Auburn in the third place game of the Diamondhead Classic, I could not contain myself. An opportunity for current UTEP head coach Tim Floyd to face the man he replaced in Tony Barbee...

The basketball gods couldn't have drawn up a better Christmas present for UTEP hoops fans.  The Miners will be facing Tony Barbee and the Auburn Tigers in the third place game at the Diamond Head Classic in Honolulu.  The game will tip of at 5:30 El Paso time on ESPN2...

I don't known how many fans believed the UTEP men's basketball team would upset UNLV last night in Las Vegas. What I do know is that for 35 minutes, Tim Floyd's game plan worked to perfection.
