Sports Movie of the Week — ‘Remember the Titans’ [VIDEO]

After throwing an 80-yard touchdown pass on the first play of overtime in the Broncos playoff win over the Steelers on Sunday, Tim Tebow once again became an emerging storyline in the NFL. While Denver’s miraculous record of success this season has often been attributed solely to Tebow, the Broncos quarterback is often quick to note that teamwork and perseverance are responsible for the victories.

Much like the Broncos, the high school-age characters of our Sports Movie of the Week, ‘Remember The Titans,’ became a better team by playing together. In this drama, which was released in 2000, Denzel Washington and Will Patton star as coaches of the newly, racially integrated T. C. Williams High School in suburban Washington, DC in 1971 .

Every NFL player has a unique story of how they came to play pro football. Few NFL players’ stories are more interesting than that of Vince Papale, the subject of our Sports Movie of the Week: ‘Invincible.’ This 2006 drama stars Mark Wahlberg, Greg Kinnear and Elizabeth Banks.

One team you won’t find playing on that day: the Pittsburgh Pisces, the fictional team at the center of our Sports Movie of the Week: ‘The Fish That Saved Pittsburgh.’ This 1979 comedy starring NBA legend Julius “Dr. J” Erving was filmed when Erving, astrology and disco music were all at, or near, their peak of popularity.
