The Miners lost their first game of the 2011 college football season to the SMU Mustangs by a final score of 28-17 . Despite the loss, UTEP had plenty of chances to win the game. A shoulder injury to starting quarterback Nick Lamaison early in the third quarter forced Miners head coach Mike Price to turn to redshirt freshman Javia Hall.

I spent Saturday night at the Sun Bowl for the entire UTEP Spring game. They billed it as the Orange and Blue game, but Miner players wore Blue and White jerseys.

A month before National Signing Day, the UTEP football team wasted no time in addressing one of their top priorities. Junior College All-American quarterback Nick Lamaison signed with the Miners and is on his way to El Paso to attend Spring semester classes.
