UTEP head coach Mike Price says he's "disappointed, frustrated, but not discouraged" after the Miners' 37-26 loss to Wisconsin in Madison, WI. The Miners are developing a reputation as a hard-hitting team going into Conference USA play.
What did we learn in Week Four? National title hopes are alive and well for Florida State and Oregon. Oklahoma’s are on life support. Notre Dame's defense is really good. LSU can win with defense. And Alabama continues to roll.
Here are all the highlights from this week in college football.
Nearly two weeks ago, Tulane senior safety Devon Walker was injured during a game against Tulsa. Medics had to revive Walker on field before he was brought to a Tulsa hospital for spinal surgery. As he begins rehabilitation this week, Ole Miss players are adding “DW” stickers to their helmets to honor him as they prepare to play the Green Wave in New Orleans this weekend.
On a picturesque evening, the UTEP Miners beat their oldest rival, 41-28 in front of 33,000 fans. UTEP was desperate for the win because their last 2 losses against Ole Miss and Oklahoma were winnable games, and next week they travel to Wisconsin.
Most people gave the Miners a slim chance to beat the 4th ranked Oklahoma Sooners at the Sun Bowl on Saturday night. UTEP showed the country and the 40,137 in attendance that they could compete with one of the nation's elite college football teams. Oklahoma won the game 24-7, but did not pull away until the 4th quarter by scoring 14 points.
