named Pat Murphy the team's interim manager for the remainder of the season.

Murphy had driven to Albuquerque with his son yesterday morning to prepare for the Chihuahuas' upcoming three-game series with the Isotopes when the Padres informed him that they had just fired manager Bud Black after nine seasons. Murphy immediately flew to San Diego and interviewed with team ownership and management last night while the Padres were hosting the Oakland A's. He will take over a team that is two games under .500 and in fourth place in the NL West.

Meanwhile, the Padres have not announced yet who will replace Murphy as Chihuahuas manager. Hitting coach Jody Davis managed the team last night, and should be the favorite to run the team for the rest of the season. Game two of the three game series with the Chihuahuas and Isotopes will be on the air tonight at 6:55pm, with Tim Hagerty calling the action.
