Rashard Mendenhall, running back for the Pittsburgh Steelers, is suing the Champion sports apparel company for $1 million because it dropped his endorsement deal after tweets Mendenhall posted following the death of Osama bin Laden.

Mendenhall’s lawyers filed the breach of contract suit Monday against Hanesbrands Inc., Champion’s parent company, based in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

After US forces killed bin Laden on May 2, Mendenhall’s tweets expressed dismay about the public celebrations and questioned whether two hijacked airliners were really the cause of the collapse of the World Trade Center towers on Sept. 11, 2001.
