Pat Murphy will be staying in the big leagues. The former El Paso Chihuahuas and San Padres manager will be named bench coach for the Milwaukee Brewers.

The San Diego Union Tribune reported that the official announcement is likely to come next week. Murphy began the 2015 season as manager of the El Paso Chihuahuas. However, the Brewers tried to hire him away in early May when the team fired Ron Roenicke and replaced him with Craig Counsell. Murphy was Counsell's college coach at Notre Dame and the two had remained close for the last 25 years. The Padres blocked the move and made Murphy their interim manager after firing Bud Black in June. The popular Chihuahuas skipper never was able to get comfortable with the Padres and he guided them to a 42-54 record before he was dismissed after the season.
