"Old Time Hockey, like Eddie Shore." That classic line was one of many memorable dialogues from the 1977  hockey cult movie classic Slap Shot. It starred Paul Newman, but was better known for the Hanson Brothers, a goonish trio of hockey players who helped turn around the season for the Minor League Charleston Chiefs.

Last night at Madison Square Garden, the New York Rangers and New Jersey Devils staged their own tribute to Slap Shot. Just seconds after the opening faceoff, three separate fights took place between Rangers and Devils players. The bad blood stemmed from a fight between the two teams just after the opening faceoff last month. The Rangers won the fights and the game 4-2 to clinch the first playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.
