New Orleans Pelicans’ Mascot, Pierre the Pelican, is Pretty Damn Terrifying

The New Orleans Pelicans, formerly the Hornets, underwent a massive rebranding this year to better reflect the city they call home. The Pelicans were born and epic logos were made. As with almost anything, New Orleans rolled with the punches and embraced their new name. Then, the mascot was unveiled.

Meet Pierre the Pelican. He’s quite possibly the most terrifying mascot in any sport.

Pierre was introduced on the official New Orleans Pelicans’ Facebook page tonight. Judging by most of the comments left on the photo, the Pelicans might be going back to the drawing board soon. Let’s go ahead and retire this guy to the twisted, traveling-show fun house where he belongs.

Trivia time! Why is Pierre the Pelican wearing the number 00? Because that’s what your eyes do when you realize the Pelicans aren’t joking with this mascot.
