Miners Snap Losing Skid With 64-55 Win Over Tulsa
Fueled by a strong defensive performance, UTEP was finally able to snap a four game losing streak. It was hard to tell whether Tulsa was ice cold or bothered by the Miners' defense. One thing was certain; D'Von Campbell and Julian Washburn did a great job locking down Tulsa's two leading scorers, Jordan Clarkson and Scottie Haralson. The Golden Hurricane shot a meager 33.9% from the field.
Offensively, the Miners weren't stellar, but they manufactured points. John Bohannon led the way for UTEP yet again with 16 points. Michael Perez dropped 14, and Julian Washburn finished with 13 points. Washburn again showed flashes of the player he will become.
After the game Tim Floyd said his team's morale was never down during the losing streak, but this win should build some confidence.
UTEP will conclude their three game homestand Saturday night against Tulane.
