Sometimes, it is better to be lucky than good. Despite getting shut out 3-0 by Sweden, Mexico still advanced into the World Cup Group Stage because Germany lost a 2-0 shocker to South Korea.

The argument could be made that Germany was uncharacteristically bad this World Cup, since the defending champions never looked like the dominant team they have always been in the past. Still, El Tri survived an awful performance today against Sweden and advanced into the Round of 16. Their next match will be on Monday at 8am against the winner from Group E. That team will be decided later today when Serbia plays Brazil and Switzerland squares off against Costa Rica. Mexico will need to resemble the team that beat Germany and South Korea if they want to have any chance to move on to the World Cup quarterfinals.
