It looks like Kerri Strug isn’t the only American olympian to accomplish greatness on a broken bone. Olympic sprinter, Manteo Mitchell, broke his leg half way through his 400-meter sprint, but finished his run because, as he says, he wanted to “do what I was called in to do."

The 25-year-old athlete said he felt searing pain during the race, and “it felt like somebody literally just snapped my leg in half.” Doctors say Mitchell had broken his left fibula.

Days earlier, Mitchell was climbing stairs when he fell and awkwardly landed. Doctors speculate this caused his injury.
