Despite the best start of the season from El Paso pitcher Keyvius Sampson, the Chihuahuas lost to the Sacramento River Cats 2-1 Saturday night at Raley Field. Sampson pitched five shutout innings, scattering three hits, while striking out four.
The Chihuahuas scored the first run of the game in the fourth inning when Jeff Francoeur hit a line drive home run over the left field wall, his third homer of the season. Sacramento tied the game in the sixth inning on Nate Freiman’s RBI double and went ahead later in the sixth when Andy Parrino singled home Freiman. Neither side scored in the final three innings.
Brooks Conrad went 2-for-4 and now has hits in nine of his last 11 games. Chris Rearick and Hector Ambriz had scoreless innings out of the El Paso bullpen. Ambriz has not allowed any runs in ten appearances this season.
El Paso's only run of the night came from this Jeff Francoeur home run.
