Tigers' pitcher Justin Verlander is a freak of nature.  His ability to reach 100 miles per hour on the radar gun in the late stages of a baseball game is beyond rare.

The reigning A.L. Cy Young winner had it working Friday night against the White Sox.  Verlander pitched eight solid innings in Detroit's 4-2 victory.

However, the highlight of the night came in the eighth inning.  Verlander was facing Chicago's Gordon Beckham and threw one so hard it shattered Beckham's bat at the handle.
