The UTEP football team needs help fast in order to reverse last season's winless campaign. They might have just found the answer to a quick turnaround when quarterback Kai Locksley announced on Twitter that he would be signing with the Miners to play football in 2018.

The news of Locksley signing with the Miners was just the beginning. Other junior college targets who were in town this past weekend also announced that they would be joining him at UTEP.

While more recruits will be arriving in town this weekend and the possibility that some of them sign with the Miners, the football program sent this Tweet out yesterday morning.

While some people thought this was a joke, it is actually brilliant. If UTEP only has 10 scholarships to give out next month, they will have to make sure that they pick the best possible players to fill immediate needs. Although special teams players are important pieces, the Miners could find former local stars to attend the February 5th tryout at the Sun Bowl rather than spend two to three scholarships on them. If these special teams players are able to impress and stick on the roster, they could easily earn themselves a scholarship in 2019.

Also, new Director of Athletics Jim Senter and the new football coaching staff are very social media friendly. They understand Twitter and have used it to their advantage. Here are some of the many tweets that they are sending out.

National Signing Day is Wednesday, February 7th.
