Jerry Jones Says Tony Romo Will Back Up Dak Prescott Next Week

Another week, another amazing Dallas Cowboys performance. America’s Team has won eight games in a row, and along the way they have found two rookie leaders whose styles seem to be infectious on the rest of the team. Dak Prescott completed 22 of 32 passes for 319 yards and a pair of touchdowns while Ezekiel Elliott’s third touchdown with just nine seconds left helped the Cowboys edge the Pittsburgh Steelers 35-30. Elliott finished with 114 rushing yards and a pair of touchdowns, while adding another score and 95 receiving yards.

The Dynamic Duo are playing so well that team owner Jerry Jones has finally bought into the fact that he cannot bring veteran quarterback Tony Romo back to his starting role despite being healthy. Jones said after the Steelers game that Romo will suit up for the Cowboys next week, but he will back up Prescott when they host the Baltimore Ravens.

The Cowboys have the best record in the NFL at 8-1 and Prescott has done everything right in order to keep the starting job. He’s thrown 14 touchdowns and just two interceptions. He seems cool and composed in every pressure situation. Tonight, he led Dallas to a pair of late 4th quarter touchdown drives and never panicked despite playing in hostile Pittsburgh. There are still plenty of Cowboys fans who believe that Romo is better suited for the starting role when the season gets into December and January. However, barring injury, Prescott may not give Jones or head coach Jason Garrett any reason to play Romo unless he comes in late for mop-up duty in a blowout win.
