On July 1, 2013 the Old Dominion Monarchs will leave the Colonial Athletic Association for Conference USA.  The Monarchs, who restarted their football program three seasons ago, will compete at the FBS level starting in 2015.

Old Dominion becomes the second school to leave the CAA this week.  On Tuesday, NCAA tournament darlings VCU announced they will join the A-10 for the 2012 season.  Based on CAA bylaws, ODU will not be allowed to compete in any championship sport next season.

With the additions of North Texas, FIU, La. Tech, UTSA, Charlotte, and ODU, C-USA will be fourteen members strong in the fall of 2013.

C-USA commissioner Britton Banowsky said in a statement:

"We are extremely pleased to add Old Dominion to Conference USA."  "They are a tremendous university with, not only a great tradition in athletics, but an extremely bright future. Their leadership team has a bold vision for the University, which fits well with our plan for the future of the conference."
