About two months ago, someone posted a video chronicling the 1933 Stanley Cup Finals between the New York Rangers and the Toronto Maple Leafs. The Rangers won the Cup in four games (best 3 out of 5), after a 1-0 overtime thriller to clinch the victory. After watching the Chicago Blackhawks defeat Boston a few weeks ago, this 80-year old footage is a real treat to watch. I especially enjoyed the trip into the Maple Leafs locker room between periods. Unlike other sports films that were made during this time period, the sound and video quality of this hockey series is remarkable. At the very end of the film, the announcer utters one of the greatest phrases ever: "the battered, old Stanley Cup goes back to Broadway." If he only knew what that trophy endured 80 years later.
