Earlier today the United States women lost to Sweden in soccer in a penalty kick shootout. This defeat eliminated the women from the Olympic soccer tournament. The heavily favored women will not even have a chance at a podium appearance at Rio this year.

Adding attention, and controversy to the loss was American goalkeeper Hope Solo's post match comments.Sport Illustrated's Grant Wahl asked Solo in the post game conference about her thoughts on the match in which Solo replied:<

Is she correct? Perhaps, probably so actually, but that is a strategy that was implemented Sweden that worked. One that is used with great regularity in world soccer by inferior teams and it is the job of the dominant team to overcome.

Possibly aggravating Solo even more were Sweden's head coach's, Pia Sundhage's response regarding Solo's comments and if she was content with Sweden's strategy, to which Sundhage responded, “Yes, we won.”
