The UTEP Miners went into halftime at the Don Haskins Center up 39-33 over the NMSU Aggies. By the body language of 12 year Miner coach Keitha Adams, you would have thought they were down 20 points.

"I thought our defense was incredibly poor the first half" Adams stated after the game, "One of the worst I have seen ever, in my 12 years here."

In what you could only imagine was a very spirited halftime speech from Adams, the Miners came out on a mission. Within the first 10 minutes of the second half, UTEP took that six point lead at the break and raised it to 24. And that was it.

Kayla Thornton led the Miners with 22 points and 12 rebounds and reached the double double in the first half. New comer and fellow El Pasoan, Stacie Telles, added 16 points and Jenzel Nash looks to be coming around and "finding her rhythm" as coach Adams likes to say by dropping 14 points and dishing out five assists.

NMSU was paced by Vanessa Garner with 16 points and September Offutt pulled down 6 boards.

The Miners next game is this Saturday at home against Kansas St, who coach Adams said will "wipe the floor" with the Miners if they play the same defense against the Wildcats that they played against NMSU.

This should be interesting to say the least.
