The defending super bowl champion Green Bay Packers are on a roll this year.  They have successfully carried over the momentum from their championship season to compile an 11-0 record thus far.

The Packers are attempting to become only the second team in NFL history to go undefeated and win the Super Bowl.  The only other team to achieve football immortality was the 1972 Miami Dolphins.  Of Course who could forget the 2007 New England Patriots, they finished the regular season undefeated, only to lose in the Super Bowl to the New York Giants.

The New England Patriots went from potentially becoming the greatest team in NFL history to just another team that lost in the Super Bowl.  It is worth noting that most people tend to forget about the teams who lose in the championship game.  After all, no one likes to go around chanting, "we're number 2!"

One may have asked the question, how the hell did  the New York Giants, a team with a 10-6 regular season record, defeat the mighty New England Patriots in the Super Bowl?  After all the Pats went 16-0 during the regular season.  The answer is simple, the Super Bowl is one game, and anything can and will happen.  That is the beauty of the NFL, 1 game decides who the champion is.

It is no secret that the Green Bay Packers are an amazing team.  They have no real noticeable flaws, and QB Aaron Rodgers doesn't make mistakes.  The way Rodgers is playing he will probably end up winning multiple Super Bowls.  If he keeps up this pace he will also end up finishing his career as one of the best quarterbacks of all time.  People in Green Bay will be saying Brett who?

The $25,000 question is, will the Packers go undefeated?  I believe they will.  Some people argue that once a team is 14-0 they should rest their starters and play their JV squad the last couple of games of the season.  I couldn't disagree with this philosophy more.  To quote the Chiefs and Jets former coach Herm Edwards, "you play to win the game!"

The ultimate goal is to win your last game, not to finish the season undefeated.  If the Packers don't finish the regular season undefeated but go on to win the Super Bowl it will be irrelevant.  If they do go undefeated, then their goal is to win the Super Bowl and become the greatest team in NFL history.

Many teams can say they have won the Super Bowl, only 1 can say they are the best ever.  No team has gone undefeated and gone on to win it all in the modern 16 game era.  If the Green Bay Packers go undefeated and don't hoist the Lombardi trophy, they will be forgotten about.  Last season they defied the odds by winning the world championship.  They got in on the final game of the regular season by defeating the Bears, then went on to win 3 road playoff games, and won the Super Bowl with numerous players on the injured reserve list.

Last season is in the past, the Packers now have the opportunity to do something that no other NFL team has accomplished.  Vince Lombardi once said, "winning isn't everything, it's the only thing."  I couldn't agree more, going undefeated and winning it all would be the most amazing accomplishment in NFL history.
