As we enter Week Eight of the high school football season, there now seems to be a logjam in 1-5A for the title and playoff spots, there might be a new power in 2-4A, and one school seems to have clinched a winning season for the first time since the late '90s.

Now to all the action:

In our N3L Optics Game of the Week, Chapin shot out to a27-7 lead and absolutely dominated Andress for the first three quarters, leading 34-14.  Then the fourth quarter began.  Andress scored two times to pull with in six points making it 34-28.  However, Chapin recovered the onside kick attempt and sealed the victory.

On Thursday night, El Dorado threw a monkey wrench into Coronado's plans to run away with the 1-5A title, pulling off the 27-21 upset (if one call it an upset).

In a rare 4 pm kickoff at the SAC, Eastlake made some noise holding Del Valle to 14 points then kicking the game-winning field goal, launching the Falcons over the Conquistadores 17-14.

Americas and Franklin found themselves in an offensive shootout and came within two points of combining for 100 points.  The teams kept trading scores back and forth, until Americas' turnovers finally caught up to them and Franklin pulled away to a 56-42 victory.

In other games, Bowie scored 22 unanswered points to pull away from El Paso 35-14.  Irvin's defense stuffed Jefferson 7-2.  Eastwood dominated Bel Air 45-2.  Canutillo kept dominated their 2-4A competition, beating Hanks 49-0.  Parkland beat Riverside 34-14.  Montwood took their frustrations out on Socorro 49-7.  Burges got their first district win by getting past Austin 13-6.  Horizon jumped out to a 28-6 lead before holding on against San Elizario 35-25.  Clint defeated Fort Stockton 28-13.  Pecos destroyed Anthony 59-6.  Fabens dominated Mountain View 42-18.   Dexter trampled Tornillo 40-2.  Deming shut out Cathedral 41-0.

Our Greater El Paso Football Showcase Offensive Player of the Week goes to Franklin's Cameron Candelaria.  Candelaria went 17 of 26 for 306 yards and five touchdowns.

Our One Source Federal Credit Union Defensive Player of the Week goes to the Eastlake defense.  The Falcons defense stepped up huge as they held a Del Valle offense that was averaging 44 points per game to a very pedestrian 14 points in their 17-14 victory.
