Week Nine of Football Friday Night was led by a clash of heavyweights in District 2-5A, a couple of match-ups going into overtime, and five games over a three-day span played at the Sun Bowl.  Who would prove to be the best of 2-5A between Eastlake and Del Valle?  Could Montwood finally get their first win of the season?  Will the playoff picture get any clearer with only two weeks remaining?  Let's look at the results to find out.

Burges earned their first win of the season on Thursday Night, beating Jefferson in a 35-30 shootout at the Sun Bowl.

In our Apex by Sunglass Hut Game of the Week, Eastlake's defense kept the juggernaut offense of Del Valle in check all night on their way to the huge 24-12 victory.  The Falcons have officially clinched a playoff spot.

After four quarters of play Montwood and Eastwood were all tied up at 22 apiece.  One overtime wasn't enough, as both teams stayed scoreless.  After trading touchdowns, two also proved to not be enough to decide the outcome.  In the third overtime, Eastwood scored and converted the mandatory two-point conversion to go up eight points.  After an interception in the endzone, the Troopers held on for the 37-29 triple overtime thrilling victory.

On Saturday, Bowie and Irvin couldn't decide a winner after four quarters, tied 21-21. Bowie scored a touchdown, but failed the pointer-after attempt.  After Irvin went backwards and was unable to convert on a Fourth and Twenty, the Bears sealed the 27-21 overtime win.

Bel Air kept the high-flying Hanks offense in check all night long and stayed in the playoff race with a 20-9 victory.

El Dorado dominated Socorro 52-7.

Chapin manhandled Austin 56-3 at the Sun Bowl.

Riverside kept within a score for most of the night before Parkland pulled away 38-23.

Ysleta exploded on winless Horizon 47-20.

Clint shutout Mountain View 49-0.

On Saturday, Franklin ran away from Coronado to win open the Saturday triple-header at the Sun Bowl 57-17.

Fabens defeated San Elizario 48-28 to remain relevant in the playoff hunt.

In the final game of the Sun Bowl triple-header on Saturday, Andress trampled El Paso High 61-10.

Kermit dominated Tornillo 55-7.

McCamey shutout Anthony 53-0.
