We have come to the final two weeks of the regular season in high school football.  Week Eight-- the ninth of the season-- provided clear evidence of the top teams in each district.  It also made the playoff races a lot more clearly, making it almost impossible for some teams to qualify now.

In our N3L Optics Game of the Week, the Canutillo Eagles dominated the Easlake Falcons 49-0.  The Falcons had a major upset over Del Valle a week earlier and may have used all their energy to pull that win off.  Eastlake never really arrived for the game and Canutillo coasted to the 49-0 victory.

In what turned out to be the best game on Friday night, Montwood came back to defeat Franklin 35-24.  Franklin jumped out to a 10-7 lead and led 17-14 at the half.  After Montwood scored to change the leadt at 21-17, Franklin answered with their own to make it 24-21.  Montwood was not finished and scored 14 unanswered points to close out the 35-24 victory.

On Thursday night, Eastwood kept themselves very much in the postseason race and just about shattered the hopes for Americas with an exciting, come-from-behind 34-28 win.  Coronado dominated Socorro 59-0.  Jefferson stayed in the 1-4A playoff conversation with a 21-7 over Burges.

In all the other Friday games, Chapin trampled El Paso High 49-14.  Bowie jumbled the playoff race with their 24-7 win over Irvin.  Hanks ran away from Horizon 42-13.  Del Valle shutout Ysleta 31-0, but lost Stephen Montes to an injury going into their bye week.  Andress shutdown Austin 51-0.  El Dorado cruised past Bel Air 37-10.  Pecos survived against Fabens 21-14.  Clint kept dominating their 3-3A opponents, 35-14 over Mountain View.  Fort Stockton earned their first victory of the season, dominating Anthony 64-0.  Parkland kept San Elizario winless 58-0.

Our Greater El Paso Football Showcase Offensive Player of the Week goes to Canutillo quarterback Javier Gomez.  Gomez rushed for 241 yards on 14 carries and scored five touchdowns in the team's 49-0 domination of Eastlake.

Our One Source Federal Credit Union Defensive Player/Team of the Week goes to the Canutillo defense.  The Eagles' defense kept an Eastlake offense averaging 44 points per game completely scoreless.
