ESPN El Paso Athlete of the Week: Monica Claxton
We at ESPN El Paso are proud to introduce Franklin’s Monica Claxton as our inaugural ‘athlete of the week.’ Claxton is a senior setter for the Cougars’ volleyball team.
The seventeen year old is among the nation’s leaders in assists. Claxton helped lead Franklin to the semifinals of the tough Mansfield tournament. She had 33 assists in a loss to Mansfield.
The 2012-2013 team is off to a 1-1 start and Claxton will be a key component if the team hopes to have success this season.
As far as life after volleyball, Claxton want to be an aerospace engineer. She would love to be able to balance volleyball and an engineering course load, but knows that could be very difficult.
