Former Detroit Lions QB Joey Harrington in Hospital After Being Hit By SUV [VIDEO]
While riding his bicycle on Sunday night in Oregon, former Detroit Lions quarterback Joey Harrington was struck by an SUV. He sustained a broken collar bone, a punctured lung, and a cut to his head in the collision, according to reports.
Harrington remains hospitalized but is expected to make a full recovery, and could be released Tuesday.
During Harrington’s six-year career, he got used to taking big hits from opposing linemen, as he totaled a 26-50 record. A former standout at the University of Oregon, Harrington was the third pick of the 2002 NFL draft, yet he never lived up to expectations on the field.
Police said that Harrington, 33, was hit from behind at around 8:30 p.m. Sunday, and that the driver was cooperating with them. They cited him for following too close.
Harrington was reportedly wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, which some say may have saved him from sustaining even worse injuries.
