Last night's heavyweight showdown between David "El Nino" Rodriguez and Owen "What theHeck" Beck turned scary two minutes into the third round. Rodriguez connected with a left hook to Beck's chin and dropped the veteran fighter to the canvas. When Beck laid motionless after the knockout and remained that way for 10 minutes, everyone in the Don Haskins Center was concerned about the health of the Jamaican native. Fortunately, Beck was able to leave the ring under his own power, and Rodriguez put a giant exclamation point on his biggest test to date.

The knockout win gave El Nino the WBC FECOMBOX Heavyweight belt, but more importantly, elevated the El Pasoan to the WBC's top 10 heavyweight rankings. Rodriguez might fight again outside El Paso, but it looks more apparent that he is headed on a collision course with Chris Arreola. That dream matchup might be coming to El Paso, and would be sure to attract a full house at the Haskins Center.
