Two weeks ago the Dallas Cowboys were in prime position to make a serious run in the 2011 postseason.  They had just come off their 4th consecutive victory, and with the Giants inability to win the Cowboys saw themselves in first place in the NFC East, with a legitimate shot of winning the division.

Then the month of December began, and the Cowboys who play so brilliantly in November, have reverted back to their usual ways, starting the month 0-2.  Last week they lost in pathetic fashion in overtime to the Cardinals.  Poor clock management and Jason Garrett's decision to ice his own kicker by calling a timeout right before a potential game winning field goal sealed the Cowboys fate.

And then there was last night's game.  Words cannot describe how frustrated Cowboys fans were when they gave up another 4th quarter double-digit lead, and then had a chance to tie the game with seconds remaining.  At this point I am thinking to myself, the Cowboys should not be in this position because Tony Romo should have completed the pass to Miles Austin when he was wide open with 2 minutes and change remaining.  As the expression goes, "could of, would of, should of."

As irony would have it, Cowboys kicker Dan Bailey made what appeared to be the game tying FG, but this time Giants coach Tom Coughlin iced him, calling a timeout.  Of course Bailey attempted the same field goal again and it was partially blocked by Jason Pierre-Paul.  Dallas loses another close game, what's new?

The worst part about the loss is that the Cowboys were a virtual shoe in for a playoff birth and the NFC East divisional title with a win. Now the team must win their final 3 regular season games, and hope that the Lions, Falcons, Bears, and Giants lose at least 1 or 2 of their final games.

What irritates me the most is that the team finally has a reliable kicker in rookie sensation Dan Bailey.  Up until his late FG miss last week in Arizona, Bailey had made a record 26 consecutive field goals.  They have a plethora of remarkable offensive talent, led by a great QB in Tony Romo.  Sadly, Romo continues to make vital mistakes when the game is coming to a close.  His  numbers are great this season comparable with Tom Brady, Drew Brees, and Aaron Rodgers.  The difference between Romo and the other QBs I just mentioned are that they know how to win when the game is on the line.

Their secondary is a joke, sometimes I think I could do a better job of defending some of the players on the opposition.  Those of you who know me understand that I am not the fastest person in the world, as a matter of fact when I ran the 40 yard dash they timed me with a calendar!

On a positive note, if you like games filled with drama and last second victories, then the Cowboys games have been great all season long.  The problem is that Dallas has been coming out on the losing end lately.  This isn't the time of year to be giving games away.  They don't call this the stretch run for nothing.  Last time I checked, the great teams find a way to win the close games, especially when they count the most.
