Coronado hosted Americas at Quarles Thunderbird Stadium in a 1-5A showdown on Friday night.  The T-Birds were underdogs in the game because Americas was coming off of a huge win against Lubbock Monterey.

Coronado began the game clicking on all cylinders offensively as they scored on their first possession.  By halftime the T-Birds looked like they were going to cruise to an easy victory as they led the Trailblazers 38-14.  Coronado's running back Bobby Chacon had a stellar first half tallying 78 rushing yards with 2 touchdowns.  T-Bird's wide receiver Branon Bogan also performed brilliantly in the first half gaining 160 yards and scoring 2 touchdowns as well.

Americas made specific defensive adjustments at halftime and came out in the 3rd quarter poised to make the game completive.  Trailblazers' QB Orlando Garcia found his star WR/RB Isak Washington for 2 touchdowns in the second half.  Washington went on to score 3 touchdowns with 214 rushing and 99 receiving yards.

Coronado blocked a 4th quarter field goal attempt by Americas that proved to be crucial to the T-Birds eventual victory.  The Trailblazers scored a late touchdown with 1:07 to go in the contest to cut Coronado's lead to 38-35, but they were unable to recover an on side kick attempt.

The win was a major statement for Coronado who now moves to 3-1 on the season.  They will host Eastwood Next Friday for homecoming.  The Trailblazers are now 2-2 and will be idle next week.
