Michael Nix pitched a complete game in the El Paso Chihuahuas 8-2 win over the Tacoma Rainiers in Game 2 of Saturday’s doubleheader at Cheney Stadium. Saturday was Nix’s first appearance with El Paso, he was signed by the San Diego Padres out of the independent Atlantic League and assigned to the Triple-A roster earlier in the day.

For the third time in three games this series, the Chihuahuas scored in the first inning. El Paso scored twice in the first on an RBI single by Jeff Francoeur and a sacrifice fly by Travis Buck. The sacrifice fly was caught by shortstop Gabriel Noriega in shallow left field when Tommy Medica unexpectedly took off and scored from third while Noriega was talking to left fielder Xavier Avery after the pop up.

The Chihuahuas took advantage of a Rainiers error in the fourth inning, scoring three times on Jace Peterson’s three-run homer just two batters after a two-out miscue by Tacoma’s Ty Kelly. El Paso’s defense was error-free for the eighth straight game; the Chihuahuas now have the best fielding percentage in the Pacific Coast League.
