Connecticut forward Chiney Ogwumike is the WNBA rookie of the year.

The WNBA announced the honor Thursday. She joins her sister Nneka, who won in 2012, as the first set of siblings to earn the honor in the league's history.

Ogwumike was the No. 1 pick in the draft last April and averaged 15.5 points and 8.5 rebounds for the Sun this past season.

She received 23 votes from a national panel of 38 sportswriters and broadcasters. Tulsa's Odyssey Sims finished second with 12 votes and San Antonio's Kayla McBride garnered two. Atlanta's Shoni Schimmel, who was the MVP of the All-Star game, got the other vote.
