El Paso Chihuahuas manager Pat Murphy loves his job. The longtime college baseball head coach is in his first season with the El Paso Chihuahuas, but his fourth season as manager in the San Diego Padres' organization. As much as he loves the game of baseball, Murph relishes that special moment when one of his players get called up for the first time to the Major leagues.

Instead of a serious phone call or a meeting to break the news of a promotion to The Show, the Chihuahuas' skipper prefers a more unconventional approach that sometimes features a good clubhouse prank. Murph spoke with me recently about how much fun he had with Jake Goebbert, when he broke the news to his starting left fielder about his first ever call-up to San Diego.
